The Safe Transfer
Decanting—the process of transferring perfume from its original bottle into a smaller travel atomizer—is an essential skill for the modern collector. It allows you to take your $400 niche masterpieces on the go without the risk of breaking or losing the primary bottle. However, if done incorrectly, you can expose the precious liquid to excess air (oxidation) or contaminants, potentially ruining the top notes and longevity of the fragrance.
The Syringe vs. Spray Method
There are two main ways to decant. The **Spray Method** involves spraying the perfume directly into a small funnel into the atomizer; while simple, this exposes the juice to the most air. The professional **Syringe Method** involves removing the spray head of your bottle and using a specialized plastic syringe to 'draw' the liquid directly into the atomizer. This is a vacuum-sealed process that keeps the fragrance perfectly fresh. We recommend using **Glass Atomizers** whenever possible, as plastic can react with some oils over time.
The Travel Protocol
Once decanted, your travel atomizer should be kept in a dark, cool place (like a pocket or an internal bag compartment). Our 10ml travel atomizers are designed with a high-precision 'Twist and Spray' mechanism that prevents leaks and protects the juice from UV light. We've mastered the art of the decant so you don't have to—every Essentia atomizer is filled using laboratory-grade equipment to ensure the 10ml you receive is identical to the liquid in the original master bottle.
