About Saffron
Saffron is liquid gold in the perfume world. It comes from the dried stigmas of the Crocus sativus flower, and each flower produces only three tiny threads. It takes roughly 75,000 flowers to produce a single pound of saffron spice, which is why it has been the most expensive spice on earth for centuries. In perfumery, saffron brings this incredible warmth that is hard to describe. It is leathery, slightly medicinal, honeyed, and metallic all at once. When Francis Kurkdjian used it as the opening note of Baccarat Rouge 540, it introduced a whole generation of fragrance lovers to saffron's magic.
